The protagonist, Duke's daughter Mary Watson, was engaged to Prince Luke Francis. Though the engagement was political in nature, Mary loved Luke. Because of this, Mary made an effort. She endured strict royal consort education, adopted the makeup and clothing that Luke liked, and changed her manner of speech and behavior. She changed everything according to Luke's wishes. However, Luke gradually began to treat her coldly. Then, on their wedding night, Luke finally tells Mary, "I will never love you." Mary tearfully begs Luke, "Please don't abandon me," but Luke coldly abandons her. Abandoned by Luke, Mary cries out in anguish, but is persuaded by her maid to decide to live freely. From that day on, Mary stops the makeup and clothing she had matched to Luke's preferences, as well as her modest demeanor, and begins to live freely. Then, this time Luke begins to court Mary instead……? "I said I would never love you," and yet now you're whispering sweet words of love to me. That's troubling.
