Tomoe and the Ghost

Tomoe and the Ghost

野原四葉

Chikuna Arasaki, a second-year middle school student, had something she was bad with. It was "ghosts." Insects, bullying, roller coasters—such things weren't scary. Ghosts were the scariest. The moment she saw one, she would want to scream "Aahhh!" (probably), and Chikuna simply couldn't handle ghosts. When she told people she knew, they would say "What?" and she might even be looked down upon. So Chikuna kept it hidden. Well, she barely had any friends to count anyway. No matter how much she refused to look in mirrors, no matter that she couldn't go to the bathroom alone at night, Chikuna wouldn't confess to anyone that she was afraid of ghosts. One day—with a bang and clatter, it was a hectic mess of a day. While Chikuna was alone at school doing her committee duties, she heard a strange tapping sound from the hallway. It was scary, so scary she wanted to run home, but Chikuna walked toward where the sound came from. After walking around the entire school several times, she discovered the strange sound was leading to the rooftop. Nervously opening the rooftop door—there was a girl smaller than Chikuna. The girl said "I am a ghost. I no longer have a life" and disappeared with the sunset.
