A Proposal in a Sunflower Field

A Proposal in a Sunflower Field

更科 郡

My grandfather, who possessed tremendous magical power, was ordered by the state to surrender all of his magic—in other words, to die. As his final and only wish, he desired to marry my grandmother, who was his childhood friend. When my grandfather was dying, my grandmother still wished to protect him. She used the ultimate magic available to her, sacrificing her own memories in the process, which caused her to lose almost all of her previous memories. Later, when my mother was born and, resembling my grandfather, caused a magical runaway due to her vast magical power, my grandmother, unable to suppress it through normal methods, repeatedly sacrificed her own memories to keep my mother in check. There was only one wish that my grandmother remembered despite all of this: she had wanted my grandfather to propose to her in a sunflower field. This is a submission for the "4th 'Shimono Hiro and Takumi Yuiko Becoming a Novelist Radio' Grand Prize."
