"I can live without love" or "You can survive without romance"

I thought I could live without love. I've had a boyfriend before. But he was just someone to fill the time when I was alone. I could do everything fine on my own anyway. I never wanted to get married. Children are cute, but I didn't have the confidence to take on that responsibility. It's just right for me to dote on my friends' children. It would have been fine if I could have had a carefree romance. Even without that, I wouldn't have been in any real trouble. And yet, why did I fall in love? With a friend who had a ring on her left hand.
