The Red Thread of the Unicorn

It was a political marriage. She was the daughter of a prestigious family from a neighboring country, nearly ten years younger than him. As the lord of a domain under the kingdom's rule, I married her as a supplementary clause to a ceasefire agreement with the neighboring country. However, war broke out again between us and the neighboring country, and I went to the battlefield leaving my pregnant wife behind. ーーー The world is set slightly more in ancient times than medieval Europe. To put it in a narou-style way... a margrave entered into a political marriage with a duke's daughter from a neighboring country, but then war broke out with that neighboring country. What he thinks of as he approaches death is his wife... that kind of thing. I forgot to include cool combat scenes for the protagonist, so I only realized after posting that it had become simply a story about an old man who loves his wife. This is a story told from the perspective of a husband who knows nothing about his wife—an aggressive reincarnated wife who doesn't become mere decoration even in a political marriage. ーーー Actually, I began writing this in response to a request in the comments section of my previous work "White Marriage..." for "sincere love from a tough-looking old man," but it became a story that I wasn't sure should be included as a side story, so I posted it separately. It can be read as a standalone piece.
