Literary Begging Theory

Literary Begging Theory

たなか

Do you know the meaning of the word "kurekure" on Syosetu (Novel Submissions)? As I understand it, this refers to the act of begging readers for evaluations in the afterword of a posted novel, or the text itself. Since requesting evaluations violates the terms of service, expressions like "I would be happy/delighted if you could rate this," or "It would encourage/motivate my writing" are commonly used instead. Since I also post novels, I understand well the desire to make such requests, and I believe people engage in such behavior precisely because it is actually effective. However, I also genuinely feel that it would be better to do so in a more elegant and literary manner, at the very least.
