"I'm going to stop reading." "I don't want to read anymore." "I'm not reading this anymore." Have any of you writers ever received comments like these? I, the one writing this, have received such "I'm not reading" declarations a few times myself. When I receive such a "I'm not reading" declaration, from my perspective as the writer... "Ah, okay. I see. Please do as you wish." That's it. Whether readers find a work boring or fall in love with it, whether they come to hate it after reading, get angry at it, or think it's garbage—that's entirely the reader's freedom. Neither the author nor anyone else has the right to say anything about it. However, if you find it boring, if you've come to hate it, unless you have a clear and strong intention of "I'm going to hurt the author who writes this kind of stuff!", then if it just doesn't suit you, I'd appreciate it if you'd simply close it and move on...
