"Breaking off an engagement is a good thing, isn't it?"

This is a broken engagement story. I felt like writing it, so I wrote it as a short story. A young baron with a commoner lover confronts his fiancée, a noble lady, with a broken engagement. His plan was for the lady to cry and cling to him, then marry her while making the commoner his mistress—but this plan falls apart easily. It's a satisfying "serves him right" kind of story.
