Ashihara Kota, a second-year high school student, serves as a setter on a boys' volleyball powerhouse team. Kota boasts of being a "perfect combination" with Igarashi Ryusei, a third-year ace. Kota has admired Ryusei ever since joining the volleyball club. At some point, that admiration had turned into romantic feelings. Although Ryusei generally maintains a close distance with everyone, he treats Kota with overprotective care beyond what a parent would show. Rather than expressing his own feelings, Kota chose to stay by Ryusei's side. Yet Ryusei keeps saying and doing things that could easily be misunderstood, which troubles Kota. Kota wished Ryusei would at least say something like "I wanted to play volleyball together more," but after the national tournament, Ryusei declared he had no regrets about high school. Realizing that he didn't exist in Ryusei's future, Kota decided to physically distance himself and wait for time to heal his feelings. However, one day, Ryusei calls out to him and they end up alone together. Unable to avoid the situation, Kota finally lets his frustrations explode, but somehow his words don't seem to reach Ryusei. After their argument, Ryusei confronts Kota with an unexpected truth.
