"The Holy Mother," as she is called, the former "Holy Maiden" Celestia, beloved by the people throughout the nation. To her, commoners suffering from the tyranny of the king and nobility come nearly every day, bringing various complaints and petitions. True to her epithet, the compassionate Celestia accepts these appeals. However, behind the scenes, she uses these petitions to diminish the power of the nobles and elevate her own position within the church. From the perspective of Rana, her bodyguard and the instrument of her schemes, Celestia is no "Holy Mother"—she is a "poisonous woman." Her actions are one wrong step away from certain ruin, and Rana privately refers to her as "that woman," yet she cannot bring herself to leave her side. There is a reason for this. Whether she rises to become the Female Pope or falls to the depths of ruin and destruction—either way, Rana is determined to see it through to the very end.
